Secondary Storage

The operating speed of the primary storage of a computer is very fast as the transfer of data to and from the processing unit is mainly via the main memory. The storage capacity of the main memory is limited as such devices are very expensive. In order to handle large volume of data, additional memory at a low cost is created. This is known as auxiliary memory or secondary storage.
