Desktop Computers or PCs

Computer market took a turn with the availability of 8-bit processors e.g Intel 8080, MOS Technology 6502, Motorola MC 6800, Zilog Z-80. Keeping pace with technology, software utilities were developed. As a result desktop computers become popular for varsatile use. Continuous miniaturisation and improved fabrication technology with falling prices for microprocessor chips and other components became the general trend of the market. Microsoft Corporation introduced MS DOS operating system which came as a revolution. IBM made PC specification open in the market. As a result different companies marketed IBM-compatible PCs. Popular desktop models were PC, PC-XT, Apple Machintosh, PC-AT, PS/2 etc.
