A programmable computer can perform varied tasks as directed by the executing programme. A computer executes the programme step by step to produce the desired result. A computer programme is a collection of such step by step or sequence of instructions in an organized manner. Each instruction specifies certain operation to be executed by the computer. After executing all the instructions contained in the computer programme a computer finishes its task and produces the result. In doing so, a computer has to perform five basic operations. The internal architectural design of a computer may vary from model to model, but the basic organization remains the same for all computer systems.
