Emotions at work

All of these experiences share a common factor that was crucially involved in searing them indelibly into long term memory emotion. Evolution designed the brain so that it identifies events perceived as essential to survival by creating a strong emotional reaction. Since survival is the brains top priority, the event will trigger a built in mechanism that ensures the brain will never forget it.

Neuroscientists have pinpointed the central component of this memory mechanism deep within the brain a small almond shaped structure called the amygdala. The amygdala is part of the evolutionary ancient emotional center of the brain known as the limbic system.
