I/O Interface

The various input/output devices are connected through the I/O interface which serves the purpose of a two-way interpretation of information. The interface arrangement is required because of disparity in functioning of the various peripheral units. The data may be recorded in serial order i.e. bit by bit, one bit after another as in the case of a magnetic  disk. Alternatively, recording of data may be done in parallel manner i.e. a group of bits together, one bit of each group in a separate channel as in the case of a magnetic tape.
