EPROM

‘Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory’ or EPROM brings in some flexibility. In a ROM or PROM chip the stored information cannot be changed. In an EPROM chip, the information stored can be erased to bring in new or modified programs. In order to do so, a special prom-programmer facility. The chip when exposed to ultraviolet light for some time loses its contents. After storing the programs EPROM becomes read-enabled and nonvolatile i.e. it retains the information even in power-off condition until erasing action is taken.
