Direct Access

The direct or random access where the information can be retrieved in a more direct or immediate manner. Random access signifies that the information is literally available at random or in any order. A random access storage device is one where it is possible to select any location in the device at random. Access to the information stored is almost direct and approximately equal access time is required for each location.
